Promised Land - A Common Archive (2007-)
Interactive installation.
Twenty five archival boxes, white gloves, assorted light boxes and signs.
A collection of slides in archive boxes were found in a rubbish heap on a Jerusalem Street in 2007. The slides all depict familiar tourist spots and idyllic landscapes of Israel Palestine dating back to the late 1960s and early 1970s. The collection of slides was produced and sold by a Palestinian family owned business. It seems that the family has emigrated to the U.S and the business no longer operates. Any attempts to locate the family have been unsuccessful. The collection is catalogued and represented in various ways mainly as actions inviting participation and in one case so far as an installation.
